A Respiratory Educator is available through the Community Health Nursing team to support and advise people who suffer from any chronic respiratory condition, including asthma, COPD, emphysema and asbestos related diseases and people with home oxygen therapy. Staff assist consumers in better understanding their condition and treatment, monitor their activities and work with them to develop an action plan for optimal health and well being. Respiratory information, counselling, exercise groups and support groups (Chestnuts Respiratory Diseases Support Group and LADS – Latrobe Asbestos Diseases Support Group) • Stop smoking advice is given and Quit courses conducted • Talks are given to community groups and workplaces eg Hostels and CRU’s as requested. • This includes the Asthma Friendly Schools program and Quit programs within workplaces.
People with a chronic respiratory condition in any age group. • Families and carers of people with chronic respiratory condition • Smokers • Latrobe City although people who live on the boundaries and no similar service is available in their area will be considered. • Self referrals • Home visits on request. (only within Latrobe City) • Residents of Hostels and CRU’s
No fee for under 18. Pension Card and Health care card $8.30 Fee can be waived if financial difficulty on discussion with Respiratory Educator and Client
