Michael Lancaster has been named Latrobe Community Health Service Volunteer of the Year for 2015.

Michael says he loves meeting the clients and hearing their stories as well as sharing his own.

Michael has been volunteering for eight years after his partner got him involved in the program.

“My partner worked at Latrobe Community Health Service and asked me if I’d be interested in volunteering and I thought I’d give it a go. I’ve never looked back since. I love it.”

“I like cracking jokes with the clients and just making them happy. That’s what it’s about, I feel, is making everyone happy,” said Michael.

Volunteers Program Support Officer Olivia Posa said Michael contributes a lot to the organisation and is a much loved member of the team.

“Michael is a very valued volunteer of ours and a worthy winner of the Volunteer of the Year award. He is always willing to help in any way he can and our clients absolutely love seeing his face,” said Ms Posa.

Latrobe Community Health Service celebrated National Volunteer Week with a ‘Welcome to the big top’ event. Volunteers and staff were invited along to an afternoon of fun, entertainment and awards.
