School holidays are here, and there’s the added challenge of some chilly weather. Here are five easy ways to stay healthy and active with the kids – even in the middle of winter!

1. Get active with indoor climbing

Jump and Climb in Traralgon and is a fantastic place for some family fun. Have a go on the trampolines and be brave on the climbing walls. Jump and Climb is open every day on the school holidays. http://www.jumpandclimb.com.au/

2. Have a swim at an indoor leisure centre

It may not be beach weather, but why not spend the day in a nice indoor heated pool?  Morwell, Newborough and Churchill leisure centres all have heated pools, with Morwell also having a toddler pool. All centres are open every day throughout the school holidays. http://www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/leisure/home

3.Make fruit faces with the kids

It can be hard to get kids to eat healthy foods so why not turn it into a bit of fun for them? Transform your fruit into funny faces, spell words with pretzel sticks and even make banana palm trees. It’s a great way to ensure your kids are eating well and having fun with it. http://goo.gl/M3k7EK

4. Go for a walk in a national park

Rug up and explore some of the Latrobe Valley’s beautiful landscapes with a walk at a national park. Tarra Bulga National Park offers the impressive Corrigan Suspension Bridge which stretches through the rainforest. Morwell National Park and Tyers Regional Park also have some great walking trails. http://www.visitlatrobecity.com/pages/national-parks/

5. Take on the rail trail

A great activity for families is the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail. The full trail is 63 kilometres, but a popular option is riding the section from Traralgon to Glengarry and back – a total of 12 kilometres. http://www.gippslandplainsrailtrail.com.au/
