Almost any given weekend, you’re likely to find a bustling market in a corner of Gippsland. It might be farm fresh produce, beautifully crafted wares or vintage treasure – you name it, you’ll find it at a Gippy market.

There are literally dozens of markets throughout the region, and we’ve narrowed in on a few of our favourites to give you a glimpse through the market gate.

Kongwak Market

If you’re after a market that has a little bit of everything, in a truly stunning setting, Kongwak Market is the place. This eclectic gathering has indoor and outdoor stalls, with a distinct retro/vintage edge.

It’s also happens to have some of the best curry you’re likely to wrap your laughing gear around, and is a smoke and plastic bag free event.

Where is it? Korumburra Wonthaggi Road, Kongwak

When is it? Every Sunday from 10am – 3pm (closed the Sunday before Christmas every year, closed if Christmas or ANZAC Day fall on a Sunday).

Traralgon Farmers Market

The iconic Kay Street Gardens play host to this hugely popular market which runs year-round on the fourth Saturday of the month. In December it becomes a twilight market held on a weeknight to make the best of the long, sunny days.

Run as a community fundraiser by the Traralgon Lions Club, you’ll always find the group behind the barbecue cooking up some snags.

What can you buy?

Jindivick Country Market

A vibrant market with a beautiful backdrop, the Jindivick Country Market gathers amazing local produce and craft to sell in the rolling hills of west Gippsland.

What can you buy?

Where is it? Jindivick Harvest Kitchen Grounds, 1070 Jacksons Track, Jindivick

When is it? The first Saturday of October, November, December, February, April and May from 8am to 12.

Rokeby Market

With more than 100 stalls, this is a market that has a little something for everyone in the family. It’s one of Victoria’s longest-running markets, with everything on offer falling into either the ‘make it, bake it, breed it or grow’ it category.

Where is it? 1016 Brandy Creek Road, Rokeby

When is it? The second Saturday of the month from September to May, from 8.30am – 12.30pm.

Koonwarra Farmers Market

This colourful market showcases the best in south Gippsland food, with the aim of promoting healthy produce straight from the farmer and specialty food makers. It’s all about authentic local farmers who grow and catch everything they sell.

As well as mouth-watering Gippsland produce, you can snap up a true piece of artwork from many of the artisans who produce gifts and curiosities to sell. Speaking of which – make sure you keep an eye on the beautiful trees that overhang the market, you might spot a local koala!

Where is it? Memorial Park, Koala Drive, Koonwarra

When is it? The first Saturday every month from 8.30am-12.30pm.

Inverloch Lions Community Farmers Market

One of Gippsland’s favourite seaside towns, Inverloch also boasts one of the most delectable farmers markets in the region.

The community-run market gives Gippslanders access to fresh, local produce every month. It slots in with the Koonwarra, Korumburra and Foster markets so you can pick up your goodies every week.

Where is it? The Glade, Inverloch
