A long-term health condition such as arthritis or diabetes can be frustrating for the person experiencing it, as well as their loved ones. However, many conditions are manageable and with the right steps, can improve over time.

Latrobe Community Health Service will be hosting a series of health management forums to help members of the community who have a chronic health condition understand their illness and how to manage it.

The Living Well forums will cover a range of topics, including lymphoedema and stroke.

Petra Bovery-Spencer, Manager Primary Intervention at Latrobe Community Health Service, said there is a lot that people can do to manage their health conditions and improve their quality of life.

“A chronic health condition doesn’t have to be a life sentence,” said Ms Bovery-Spencer. “Through eating well, proper medication and moderate exercise, many people find that they gradually feel better and have more energy.

“By taking care of their own health, we can help keep people out of hospital and in their own homes and communities for longer.”

The Living Well forums will be held from 10am to 12.30pm at Latrobe Community Health Service sites in Buckley Street, Morwell and 42-44 Fowler Street, Moe from September to November.

The first topic of discussion will be managing your health after a stroke. The forum will be held on Friday, 16 September in Morwell.

The next session will cover the topic of managing lymphoedema, or the swelling of body parts – especially arms and legs. It will be held on Monday, 10 October in Moe.

The following day on 11 October, a session will be held about arthritis, also in Moe.
