Oral care vital for overall health

Dr Lisa Marshall has seen a lot of smiles in her 17 years as a dentist.

Dr Lisa Marshall has seen a lot of smiles in her 17 years as a dentist.

Based at the dental clinic at the Newmason medical centre, Lisa knows how important good oral health is for general and mental wellbeing.

“Having a healthy smile maintains good self-esteem and confidence which promotes mental wellbeing,” said Lisa.

“Dental infections can cause all sorts of problems for the management of your general health issues.”

Originally from Lincolnshire in the United Kingdom, Lisa and her family now call Warragul home.

She has been working at the dental clinic operated by Latrobe Community Health Service for 14 months.

When asked about her most important tip to maintaining a healthy
smile, Lisa said it was to eat three meals a day and stop snacking.

“Grazing causes tooth decay. Give your mouth a break for a few hours
between meals and stop drinking sugary fizzy drinks,” she said.

“Regular check-ups are important to stop problems early, which minimises the need for complex dental treatments in the future.”
