At LCHS, we offer warm, family-friendly autism assessments for children aged 2 to 7 years, living in the Latrobe Valley. Our experienced multidisciplinary team works together to provide a comprehensive and caring assessment experience, tailored to each child’s unique needs.

Our assessment process includes:
- A background interview with the child’s parent or carer
- Speech and language assessment
- Social communication and pragmatic skills screening
- Autism-specific assessments, such as the ADOS-2
- In-person observation of your child in a safe, welcoming environment
Assessments are completed and where suitable, children and their families will be involved in a group program rather than individual sessions. These generally run for four to six sessions. A number of groups run across our Traralgon, Morwell and Moe locations.
How to access the clinic

We accept referrals only from the child’s paediatrician, using our dedicated referral form.
Once the assessment is complete, we send a detailed report to the referring paediatrician, who will review the results with the family and, if appropriate, provide a formal diagnosis.
To be eligible, your child must:
- Be between 2 and 7 years old
- Live in the Latrobe Valley catchment area
AND meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Hold a Health Care Card
- Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- Have parents/guardians who requires an interpreter
- Be from a refugee or asylum seeker background
